The World, Culture and Nature in Lagoa do Ouro
2007/2008, Stencil paintings, project in public space, commissioned by the Swiss NGO Nordesta.
I have spent 9 months in the small town called Lagoa do Ouro, interior of the State Pernambuco, in the Northeast of Brazil, where I developed this artistic and pedagic project together with the population and the youngsters of the place.
The aim of the Swiss-Brazilian NGO(Nordesta) which has sent me as an artist and swiss cilvil-servant, was to increase the awareness among the inhabitants and thus their better protection for the nearby forest reservation.
Our artistic work should provoke a sensitization for beauty and valorizing of nature.
O Mundo, Cultura e Natureza em Lagoa do Ouro, is a collection of stencil-images. A vocabulary of approximately 300 images of nature, culture and regional imagination, produced and painted by the participants and put on the frontside of the houses in collaboration with the house owners. By creating a collection with elements of nature as well as of culture and of everyday life, nature and culture could be recomposed in new combinations, likewise a collage, building new significances on an imaginary level.
